The use of essential oils

Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils obtained from plant extract to affect one's health or mood. Essential oils have been used to kill bacteria, relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and as treatment for many other ailments. These oils may be inhaled directly by an individual, applied topically, or added to a bath. A few examples of certain popular essential oils and their benefits are listed below:

Lavender - Very effective on burns. Anti-inflammatory properties. Speeds wound healing and reduces scarring. It is calming and can be used to reduce stress. Lavender may be applied to the soles of the feet to aid in the treatment of almost any ailment.

Tea Tree - Broad range of antibiotic properties. Some preparations can be taken orally or it can be applied topically to treat yeast infections, athlete's foot, acne,…

Peppermint - Aids many digestive complaints such as motion sickness and irritable bowel syndrome. It can stimulate the mind and sharpen mental focus.

Chamomile - Relieves tension and nervous conditions, even in children.

Eucalyptus - Used for respiratory conditions such as chest congestion and colds. It is also believed to support the immune system in the winder and when applied with a compress may relieve a fever.

Geranium - May brighten and uplift spirits while also working as a sedative. Stimulates hidden creative and emotional reserves. May be effective as an aid in menopausal, uterine and breast conditions.

Rosemary - A mental and physical stimulant. Used to warm up arthritis joints. Helpful with cold and flu symptoms. May stimulate hair growth.
