Reiki Session

What happens during a session?

During a Reiki session the practitioner lays her hands either on or slightly above the body generally proceeding from head to toe. Unlike massage therapy, clients remain fully clothed and no oils or lotions are used. The client lies on a massage table in a supine (face up) position. If desired, the final half of the treatment may be carried out with the client lying in a prone (face down) position on the table.

The client may experience a feeling of warmth, very deep relaxation, tingling, coolness, or other sensations during the treatment as the energy makes its way to where it is needed most. Any and all feelings experienced are normal EXCEPT pain. A client should not have increased pain during a session and if this occurs, the practitioner should be notified immediately. The client may need to be repositioned, the practitioner may need to move to another area of the body, or that particular session may need to be discontinued. It is very rare that a session would need to be discontinued due to an increase in pain or symptoms.

Often the client leaves the session feeling both relaxed and energized. He or she has a feeling of relaxation, contentment, a feeling of having gained better control of problems, fears, or concerns which have been bothersome.

While helpful, it is not necessary to divulge any more information about a situation or condition than the client feels ready to provide. This comfort level will usually build as the relationship between the client and the practitioner grows stronger. It is very helpful for the client though to provide a list of medical conditions, current treatment, and all medicines (including herbal and natural remedies) taken.
